      Thanks for the input Slammer.
It had probably something to do with the language settings.
Anyway it’s is working now. Great!

Thanks for the info, there isn’t one. It seems that msinfo32 and dxdiag will not work with each other as I can install one without the other and it works fine. I must have done something to break my VM. Thanks again!

I tried that and it doesnt seem to work. I am also struggeling with getting msinfo32 and dxdiag to work at the same time. One or the other seperately seems to work fine.

Hello – I am trying to run this on an Azure hosted VM……is there anyway to get to the settings other than Control Alt Q?

      Hi George,

If you can not use CTRL + ALT + Q for the first time there is no way to get the settings.
In the settings itself you can change the ‘Q’ to any other key though.
Otherwise you can take a look in the registry and search for upMsInfo. All the settings are stored there.

In the next version of the scambait tools there will be one settings panel for all the upScambaitTools together.
Don’t know yet when it will be ready.

you can also change the hotkey using the Registry Editor. the key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\upMSINFO32\Hotkeys
the only string there is “openSettings” with a default value of “q”. you can change that to any other letter

I have deleted the msinfo32.exe as well as every msinfo32.exe.mui file on my VB running 64 Win 7 Ultimate. Every program installed nicely. With this one there is nothing more i can think of to get it to work. Seems the error might ne in the launch of the application. Runtime error 13 Type Mismatch.

Same problem as the others. Worked fine until I also installed updxdiag as well. The latter works, but now msinfo32 no longer works 🙁

I have the same problem. When I install both upDXDiag and upMSInfo32, I get the ‘runtime error type 13 mismatch’ when I run upMSInfo32. I’ve narrowed it down to an issue with the following registry keys that get created by upDXDiag in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\upDXDiag\installed:
    – LastUpdate
    – value

When I delete both registry keys, upMSInfo32 works fine.

Unfortunately this is not a permanent solution, becasue running upDXDiag again, re-creates the keys.

Also, I noticed at the bottom of the upMSInfo32 window, I can see the top of a check box and some text.

Got it working alongside upDXDIAG by furthering your work here.

The app is looking for the “installed” key in the “upMSCONFIG” key here:

Notice the name, it’s not the “upMSINFO32” key. This one doesnt exist post install/first-run but the app is requesting it.
So as a quick fix, i exported everything at the “upMSINFO32” key level and edited the reg file to “upMSCONFIG”. Ran the reg file so it recreated a duplicate of “MSINFO32” under “upMSCONFIG” and it all works like a charm.
Not totally sure why it only does this after using both dxdiag and msinfo tools but i’m guessing it has something to do with centralising the config for all the “up” apps?

Anyway, hope it helps someone down the road, happy hunting.

there’s a simple registry trick that makes installation steps 2-5 completely unnecessary, no need to take ownership of anything or rename anything.

    * after installing, open the Registry Editor
    * go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\
    * create a new key and name it msinfo32.exe
    * in the key, create a new string and name it “Debugger”
    * set it to “C:\Windows\System32\upMSINFO32.exe”

    easier way:
*after installing, open a text editor
    *paste the following:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\msinfo32.exe]

    *save as upMSInfo32.reg
    *run it

now when anyone tries to open msinfo32, Windows will load upMSInfo32 instead.
reversing it is as simple as removing the Debugger entry if there’s ever a need to uninstall it
this trick can work with every upScamBaitTool. this can even be done by the installer if Ufo Pilot decides to do so with future releases.

  • Edward Grey

Thanks for pointing this out. I am having the same issue and this seems to be the only way I can resolve it. Hopefully there is a fix in the works.

  • Norm

It seem like it is almost impossible to rename, move or delete msinfo32.exe in Windows 10. Are there any registry experts able to come up with a fix for this?
